Tianjin Maritime Court is a specialized court which has jurisdiction over maritime cases and was established on 1st June 1984 in accordance with the Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the Establishment of Maritime Courts in Coastal Port Cities.
It is one of the maritime courts with the longest history in China and has jurisdiction over the Extended sea area (including coastal ports, offshore islands and waters) north to the junction of Hebei Province and Liaoning Province and south to the junction of Hebei Province and Shandong province. The jurisdiction scope of the Tianjin Maritime Court is exercising special jurisdiction over maritime and maritime merchant cases involving the sea, ships, ports and waters which mainly includes more than 60 types of cases involving ship collisions, marine pollution, personal injury at sea, transportation at sea or in water areas leading to the sea, ship construction, ship leasing, freight forwarding, marine insurance, and crew services.
The headquarter of the Tianjin Maritime Court is located in Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area and seventeen circuit offices are established in Beijing, Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi and Ningxia for the convenience of the relevant parties.
Over the years, the Tianjin Maritime Court has firmly adhered to the thought of justice for the people and equal justice, closely focused on the overall development of the marine economy and reform and opening up, fully played its role in maritime justice, safeguarded maritime sovereignty, and conscientiously served the National Marine development strategy, providing effective judicial guarantees for the construction of marine ecological civilization.
