On September 25th, Tianjin Maritime Court held a public hearing to hear a public interest lawsuit on marine environment and pronounced the verdict in court. At the same time, nearly 30 representatives of the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and staff from relevant units were invited to attend the hearing, and the entire process was live streamed through the China Court Trial Open Network.

In July 2023, three companies including a company in Pingtan, Fujian dumped 3500 cubic meters, 4000 cubic meters, and 5500 cubic meters of dredged materials in the waters near the north side of the 300000 ton crude oil terminal in the Tianjin Nanjiang Port Area of the National Marine Germplasm Resources Protection Zone without obtaining a permit for marine dumping of waste, causing a total of 334845 yuan in marine ecological environment damage and loss of marine aquatic resources. In July 2024, the Third Branch of Tianjin People's Procuratorate issued a notice stating that no relevant parties had filed a lawsuit after the expiration of the notice period. Therefore, a civil public interest lawsuit was filed with Tianjin Maritime Court.

Bohai Sea is a nearly enclosed inland sea with many ports and industrial areas, and the issue of marine ecological protection is particularly prominent.
